2. Understanding of SERVAS

We would like you to understand the purpose of SERVAS well.

“SERVAS is a non-profit, non-political, interracial system of hosts and travelers working towards international understanding and good will through person to person contacts.”

SERVAS is an Esperanto word which means “to serve” in English. Being an international organization, more than 100 countries and districts join SERVAS today. It is also recognized as an NGO by the United Nations.

SERVAS is not a social campaign or a political group, but an organization to aim to promote and maintain world peace through mutual understanding. It has been involved in this movement in terms of humanitarian concept. A Servas member is supposed to accept a foreign traveler at his/her home, and the traveler is treated as a member of the host family, even though he/she is a total stranger. As soon as he/she enters the host's house, he/she is treated as their brother or sister. Where else in the world can you find such a friendly organization? In this way, wherever you go, you can make many friends and plant seeds of friendship!

Servas Japan was established in 1962 and now has 7 chapters all over the country. Each region has a secretary, vice-secretary, and a bureau chief, and they are in charge of contacting travelers and hosts. Servas Japan has National Secretary and Vice-National Secretary, who are involved in general business in terms of international activities as well as national ones.

Everybody is welcome to our company who approve the purpose of SERVAS and are willing to support us. Please join us and start your own international exchange by accepting a traveler. And go abroad as a SERVAS traveler in the near future!
